How do my children and I apply for Right from the Start Medicaid?

To save you time, an EarnBenefits Counselor can let you know if you might qualify for Right from the Start Medicaid and other benefits and assist you with the application. To find a counselor near you, click here.

Or you can apply for Right from the Start Medicaid on your own in three ways:
  1. Apply online. This application allows you to apply for both PeachCare for Kids and for Right from the Start Medicaid. Once you submit your application, they'll tell you which program your children qualify for. This is the fastest way to apply.

  2. Call or go to your county Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) office to apply. DFCS can take your application or help you find other places to apply such as schools, hospitals or community centers.

  3. Call the Right from the Start Medicaid Outreach Project at (800) 809-7276 to find places to apply that have early morning, evening and weekend hours.
After you complete an application, you’ll have to interview with a caseworker at the Medicaid office.

You’ll find out if you’ll get Right from the Start Medicaid within 45 days after you apply.

What do I Need to Bring?
To apply for this benefit, you will need:
  • Information on your children’s current or past health insurance, such as an insurance benefit card or insurance policy number (if your children have health insurance)
  • Proof of your household’s income
  • Proof of citizenship or immigration status for yourself and your children
If you dont have regular pay stubs to prove your income, see alternatives here.

The needed documents section lists all the forms and documents you can use to prove your household's income, resources, where you live, your social security number, your citizenship or immigration status, etc.
